Massena is about real people in the Barossa Valley crafting wines with provenance, character and stories.
Each wine has a life story, born of an idea, a special vineyard, an unexpected seasonal event. Our handmade wines are all small batch from vineyards we own and places we know. We give ourselves the freedom to create any wine worthy of the vineyard site and the season.
Massena wines are 'lifestyle' wines, they are made with a view that each wine has a context. With food, with friends, for no reason whatsoever, they are there to be enjoyed.
We source traditional Barossa varieties Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro from dedicated growers in the deep red soils of the North Western edge of the Barossa. These include the sub regions of Greenock, Stonewell and Moppa. These rare vineyards host dry farmed, low yielding vines up to 150 years of age.
One of the most important vineyards for Massena is Stonegarden in the Eden Valley. The fruit from this vineyard is complex and concentrated and the pedigree of root stock delivers outstanding Shiraz, Grenache and White Varietals.
Over time we have been experimenting and trialling new varieties to the Barossa such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Tinta Amarela, Petite Sirah, Primitivo, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Tempranillo, Graciano, Saperavi and Tannat.
These varietals are planted on our own ‘Dadds Block’ vineyard and are now integral to our winemaking.
With a complete hands off approach in the vineyards and the winery, each bottle is a pure expression of the sites and the season.
Showcasing the raw, untamed beauty of the fruit and the non-conforming creative talent of our winemaker.
